The New York City Rescue Mission has been serving the poor, hungry and homeless of New York City since 1872. We are always on the lookout for men and women to join us in the fight against poverty and homelessness. We have the following positions available:



Case Manager (Full-time)

Qualifications:

  • Have a heart of service for the poor, underserved, homeless and hungry individuals in NYC
  • BSW (Bachelors in Social Work) is sufficient, MSW (Masters in Social Work) is preferred, and LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) would be ideal
  • Case management experience and knowledge of NYC social services networks and agencies
  • Compassion for the financially poor, spiritually broken, chemically-addicted and mentally ill
  • Ability to integrate Biblical truths with ethical and clinical excellence
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) would be beneficial, but is not required

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform case management intakes for male and female overnight guests and enter information into database
  • Effectively case manage clients through the coordination of outpatient program services and by actively monitoring client compliance
  • Function as a member of the leadership team to effectively serve clients in our Work Readiness or Work Development Programs
  • Create and individualized plan/goals with client and other providers to address barriers to overcoming homelessness
  • Provide referrals to outside services based on clients needs (benefits assistance, legal, mental health, substance abuse, housing, employment, education, healthcare)
  • Perform follow up care/ ongoing support as needed to assist client in obtaining necessary services
  • Liaise between Mission staff and outside agencies providing services at the Mission
  • Establish new referrals, partnerships, and MOU’s with agencies, programs and services that will help facilitate the fulfillment of our mission statement
  • Participate in weekly group and individual supervision, including presenting treatment plans
  • Arrange appointments for services not provided in-house (e.g., PPDs, physicals, psych evals)
  • Concurrently input case notes and track outcomes in computer-based client-tracking system

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Fill in occasionally for Mission Services staff, providing coverage for vacations and holidays
  • Administer psycho-socials, alcohol and drug tests as requested
  • Teach a class, facilitate a group, or organize a workshop, as needed
  • Advocate for clients (i.e., court appearances, entitlements, etc.)

Hours: 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday with periodic weekend manager rotation

Housing Specialist (Full-time)

Qualifications:

  • Have a heart of service for the poor, underserved, homeless and hungry individuals in NYC
  • Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Knowledge of housing resources available within NYC Metropolitan area
  • Familiarity with NYC social services networks and agencies that provide housing
  • Ability to travel offsite to research housing options
  • Ability to work with landlords, realtors, and homeless clients
  • Familiarity with housing applications, HRA, Link and Voucher programs
  • Passion and “heart” for working with people struggling with homelessness
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) would be beneficial, but is not required

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Housing Specialist coordinates all services required to assist clients with moving from the Rescue Mission to housing within the NYC community
  • Coordinate referrals to community-based housing resources
  • Manage multiple tasks to assist in addressing clients’ needs to secure permanent housing and self-sufficiency.  This may include scheduling appointments, preparing client paperwork, assisting client in gathering documents, credit scores, past housing references, etc.
  • Work with volunteer financial mentors to provide individual budgeting plans to assist client in developing a saving plan to cover security payment, monthly living expenses, etc.
  • Collaborate with team members of other professional disciplines to ensure that client is meeting goals and objectives of the individualized housing plan
  • Complete applications for permanent housing or housing subsidy for any and all services that clients are eligible for
  • Perform site visits as needed to locations including the transitional homes, prospective permanent housing locations, treatment programs, employment site or other community based agencies
  • Electronically documents all assessments, client's status, progress with goals and referrals, contacts with client and service providers, services and interventions provided
  • Concurrently input case notes and track outcomes in computer-based client-tracking system
  • Participate in weekly group and individual supervision

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Fill in occasionally for Mission Services staff, providing coverage for vacations and holidays
  • Teach a class, facilitate a group, or organize a workshop, as needed

Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday with periodic weekend manager rotation

Director of Workforce Development (Full-time)

Qualifications:

  • Have a heart of service for the poor, underserved, homeless and hungry individuals in NYC
  • Bachelor Degree in related human services or human resources field.  Master’s preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current workforce development practices
  • Proactive and creative skills which allow for ongoing process and program improvement in developing a strong program to support homeless individuals who are currently employed
  • Familiarity with NYC social services networks and agencies that provide workforce development and housing services
  • Ability to oversee and direct multiple employees including case managers and housing specialists
  • Service-minded attitude with excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Passion and “heart” for working with people struggling with homelessness
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) would be beneficial, but is not required

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Workforce Development coordinates all program services and staff required to assist working clients at the Rescue Mission to maintain their employment, to find better employment (if underemployed) and to assist in the development of an individualize plan to move the working client to permanent housing.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local business leaders (especially HR and Recruitment) in order to maximize employment opportunities for the shelter population
  • Oversee development and implementation of volunteer financial mentor program to provide individual budgeting plans, to assist client in developing a saving plan to cover security payment, monthly living expenses, etc.
  • Provide leadership with assigned team members as well as effectively coordinate services with other disciplines at the shelter to ensure that client is meeting goals and objectives of his/her individualized plan
  • Provide opportunities for career exploration through job shadowing, business tours, work experiences, mock interviewing, resume development, etc.
  • Concurrently input case notes and track outcomes in computer-based client-tracking system
  • Provide staff with weekly team meetings and individual supervision

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Fill in occasionally for Mission Services staff, providing coverage for vacations and holidays
  • Teach a class, facilitate a group, or organize a workshop, as needed

Hours: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday with periodic weekend manager rotation.
