The New York City Rescue Mission has been serving the poor, hungry and homeless of New York City since 1872. We are always on the lookout for men and women to join us in the fight against poverty and homelessness. We have the following positions available:


Case Manager (Full-time)

Qualifications:

  • Have a heart of service for the poor, underserved, homeless and hungry individuals in NYC
  • BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) is preferred, Bachelor Degree required
  • Case management experience and knowledge of NYC social services networks and agencies
  • Compassion for the financially poor, spiritually broken, chemically-addicted and mentally ill
  • Ability to integrate Biblical truths and pastoral care with ethical and clinical excellence
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) preferred

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform case management intakes for male and female overnight guests and enter information into database
  • Effectively manage clients in our THRIVE Program
  • Coordinate outpatient program services and monitor client compliance
  • Create individualized plan/goals with client and other providers to address barriers to overcoming homelessness
  • Participate in weekly group and individual supervision
  • Arrange appointments for services not provided in-house (e.g. PPDs, physicals, psych evals)
  • Enter case notes into computer-based client-tracking system

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Fill in occasionally for Mission Services staff, providing coverage for vacations and holidays
  • Administer alcohol and drug tests
  • Teach a class, facilitate a group, or organize a workshop, or lead a Bible study, as needed
  • Advocate for clients (i.e., court appearances, entitlements, etc.)

Hours: 12:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday - Friday (somewhat flexible)

Housing Specialist (Full-time)

Qualifications:

  • Have a heart of service for the poor, underserved, homeless and hungry individuals in NYC
  • Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Knowledge of housing resources available within NYC Metropolitan area
  • Familiarity with NYC social services networks and agencies that provide housing
  • Ability to travel offsite to research housing options
  • Ability to work with landlords, realtors, and homeless clients
  • Familiarity with housing applications, HRA, Link and Voucher programs
  • Passion and “heart” for working with people struggling with homelessness
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) would be beneficial, but is not required

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Housing Specialist coordinates all services required to assist clients with moving from the Rescue Mission to housing within the NYC community
  • Coordinate referrals to community-based housing resources
  • Manage multiple tasks to assist in addressing clients’ needs to secure permanent housing and self-sufficiency.  This may include scheduling appointments, preparing client paperwork, assisting client in gathering documents, credit scores, past housing references, etc.
  • Work with volunteer financial mentors to provide individual budgeting plans to assist client in developing a saving plan to cover security payment, monthly living expenses, etc.
  • Collaborate with team members of other professional disciplines to ensure that client is meeting goals and objectives of the individualized housing plan
  • Complete applications for permanent housing or housing subsidy for any and all services that clients are eligible for
  • Perform site visits as needed to locations including the transitional homes, prospective permanent housing locations, treatment programs, employment site or other community based agencies
  • Electronically documents all assessments, client's status, progress with goals and referrals, contacts with client and service providers, services and interventions provided
  • Concurrently input case notes and track outcomes in computer-based client-tracking system
  • Participate in weekly group and individual supervision

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Fill in occasionally for Mission Services staff, providing coverage for vacations and holidays
  • Teach a class, facilitate a group, or organize a workshop, as needed

Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday with periodic weekend manager rotation
